Privacy Policy

Last updated October 14, 2026

Centability ("Centability", "we", "us") makes the Centability app for iPhone and Android. This policy explains what we collect when you use the app and this website, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses Centability in the United States.

The short version

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

Information from your banks, through Plaid

When you link an account, we receive, through Plaid, the information described in section 2: account details and balances, transactions, recurring payments, and, for credit cards, loans and investment accounts, their balances, payment details and holdings.

Information collected automatically

We don't use advertising identifiers, ad networks, or third-party analytics or tracking tools, and this website sets no cookies.

Information that stays on your phone

2. Connecting your bank accounts

Centability uses Plaid Inc. ("Plaid") to connect to your bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts. When you link an account, you give your bank login to Plaid, not to us; Centability never sees or stores your bank username or password.

With your permission, Plaid collects from your financial institution and shares with us:

We use this information only to provide Centability: to show your spending, budgets, bills and net worth, and to send the alerts you choose. We don't sell it, and we don't use it for advertising.

Plaid's use of your information is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. By linking an account, you agree to it.

You can unlink an account at any time in Account › Linked banks. When you do, we disconnect it at Plaid, so Plaid stops collecting from it for us, and we delete its accounts and transactions from Centability. Deleting your Centability account does the same for every linked account.

3. How we use it

Insights in the app, like where your spending is up this month, are worked out from fixed rules applied to your own data. We don't use your data to train machine learning or AI models, and we don't share it with anyone who does.

4. Who we share it with

We never sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with:

WhoWhyWhat
PlaidConnecting your bank accountsWhat's needed to link and keep your accounts up to date
RenderHosting our servers and database in the United StatesAll the data described above, stored encrypted
Postmark (ActiveCampaign)Sending account emailsYour email address, name and the email's contents
SentryError reportsTechnical details of errors, without your name, email, IP address or financial data
Expo, Apple and GoogleDelivering push notificationsYour notification token and the notification's text
Apple and GoogleSign in with Apple or Google, if you use itWhat's needed to confirm it's you

These providers may use the information only to provide their service to us. We may also share information:

5. Buddies and group challenges

If you invite someone to be your budget buddy, or start or join a group challenge, the other people in it see your first name, your check-in streak and whether you've checked in today, and your progress through a challenge as a percentage. They never see your amounts, balances, merchants, transactions or budgets. You can end a buddy pairing or leave a challenge at any time.

6. How we protect it

No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we'll notify you as the law requires.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open, and delete it when you delete your account. Some data is removed sooner:

We may keep information longer if the law requires it, or to resolve a dispute or prevent fraud.

8. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app at Account › Delete account. We disconnect every linked bank at Plaid, then delete your account and all the data in it: your profile, linked accounts, transactions, budgets, settings, check-ins and challenges. We send you an email to confirm. Copies in our backups expire within 7 days.

If you can't get into the app, email privacy@centability.app from the address on your account, and we'll delete it for you after confirming it's yours.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with privacy laws, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale, sharing for targeted advertising, or profiling. We don't sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, and we don't use it for profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@centability.app. We'll confirm your identity, usually through the email address on your account, and respond within the time the law requires. You may use an authorized agent, and we won't treat you differently for exercising your rights. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our response.

10. Children

Centability is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change affects how we use information we've already collected, or is otherwise significant, we'll tell you in the app and ask you to review and agree to the new version before you continue.
